Fix: your boot partition is on a disk using the GPT partitioning scheme, but this machine cannot boot using GPT

by Jon on January 11th, 2010

Recently after trying to install Ubuntu on a system then switching to CentOS instead, the following error was presented to me when trying to partition the hard drive. “Your boot partition is on a disk using the GPT partitioning scheme, but this machine cannot boot using GPT.” To fix this problem the MBR needs to be cleared out, use an fdisk tool to do this and save it. Once that is done go back into the installation and the partitions will be created without any errors.
